There are a handful of celebs who defy staid red carpet rules on the regular. On these women, you won’t find traditionally glitzy, Old Hollywood-type gowns. One of said stars is Rooney Mara. The actress and Vogue cover star has developed her own distinctive style, often favoring a stark monochromatic palette and sculptural silhouettes. At the Animal Equality’s Inspiring Global Action Los Angeles Gal in Beverly Hills last night, she mastered the art of the unexpected yet again, breaking out a new fashion idea all together: the red carpet harness.
For her appearance, Mara chose to wear a faux leather style by Hiraeth, the vegan fashion label she recently co-founded. She styled the piece overtop a crinkly, long-sleeved dress in pristine white. While we’ve seen the harness begin to trend in a more casual context, where It girls have layered them up with T-shirts and jeans, this provocative foray into the red carpet world à la Mara is a first—and it works. To offset the severity of the look, the actress chose simple ankle-strap sandals; she wore no jewelry either.
