The arrival of baby Sussex is only a few months away, and the royal parents-to-be are preparing in eco-friendly earnest.
According to new reports by the British press, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are finalizing the plans for their nursery at Frogmore Cottage. It’s said that the room will include vegan and organic paint.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s reported brand of choice? The Organic & Natural Paint Co., a U.K.-based company that offers, as the name suggests, organic and natural paints. No word on the colors chosen by the duke and duchess, but The Organic & Natural Paint Co. offers more than 80 hues, with eccentric British names like Mrs. Wilmott’s Ghost, Yorkshire Fog Grass, and Lords and Ladies. (The latter, in particular, would be quite appropriate.)
It’s also rumored that the couple has enlisted the interior design services of Vicky Charles of Charles & Co design studio. Charles spent 20 years as the Soho House, eventually leaving her role there as global head of design to open her own practice in 2016. And she’s no stranger to high-profile clients: Charles has worked with the Clooneys, the Beckhams, The Ned in London, Soho Farmhouse, and Bon Appétit’s Test Kitchen.
In the past few years, vegan and natural designs have found a considerable niche in the interiors market. In addition to The Organic & Natural Paint Co., paint company Farrow & Ball has several finishes made without any animal derivatives or products including its Estate Emulsion, Modern Emulsion, Estate Eggshell, Modern Eggshell, Full Gloss, Exterior Eggshell, and Exterior Masonry. Recently, Cassina partnered with Philippe Starck on a line of vegan furniture made of apple-based materials, and the Hilton London Bankside just launched what it calls the world’s first vegan hotel room, complete with pineapple-leather furnishings and pillows stuffed with buckwheat, millet hulls, and bamboo fibers.
Meghan Markle is already a fashion inspiration—looks like she may be ahead of the curve with furnishings as well.
