The organisers of what they say is an “awesome evening of raw food” in Cornwall have arranged a banquet to demonstrate that “plant-based food doesn’t have to boring, tasteless or off putting”.
The event takes place on Friday, February 1 at Archie Browns vegetarian and vegan café and deli in Truro.
The six-course menu is the brainchild of Graeme Holland, of Cornish raw food company Pura Pressed, and chef Jay Halford, who runs raw / vegan food juice bar and kitchen in Cheltenham.
He said: “For the past three years I have been very focused on retreats and consultancy catering for groups of health and wellness warriors, and helping other businesses to transition to healthier food options.
“I have been lucky enough to travel all over the world doing this and now I am super excited to be bring my food to Cornwall and teaming up with Graham from Pura Pressed. I have felt drawn to Cornwall for a few years now so this is beautiful timing and we cannot wait to pop up at Archie Browns for the first of many pop-up restaurants.”
Rawfoodism (which is vegan / plant-based) dictates that food should be eaten completely raw or heated at temperatures below 104–118°F (40–48°C).
A raw vegan diet is generally rich in fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds, sprouted grains and legumes. It also tends to be naturally low in processed foods and retains more nitrients.
The menu at Archie Browns is as follows.
Sit down to your table already laid with “bread and dips”:
- A raw dehydrated seed bread
- Buckwheat, sun-dried tomato and thyme bread
- Smoked hummus
- Olive tapenade
- Fresh creamy tomato, red pepper and cashew nut soup
- Beetroot ravioli with cashew cream cheese filling, walnuts, balsamic and pine nuts
- A celebration of winter veg with Cornish sea greens
- Coconut parfait with pineapple, mint, lime and black sesame salad
Trio of desserts:
- Raw chocolate mousse
- Passion fruit cheesecake
- Salted caramel slice
Tickets are £40 from Pura Pressed’s Facebook page or over the counter from Archie Browns in Truro. If you say you read about the evening on Cornwall Live you will get a ticket for the reduced price of £35.
